All About Sunscreen & Everything in Between

Now that the warm weather’s finally here, it’s important to remember that while you may love going outdoors, there are serious consequences when you get too much exposure from the sun.

Overexposure to sunlight causes sunburns, premature aging of the skin and other serious negative side effects.

Aside from not actually going out, the only protection that can save you from these unwanted situations is by using sunscreen. However, one of the dilemmas that you can encounter is choosing what sunscreen to buy, particularly the right amount of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) to ensure your skin’s defense from the harmful sun.

Befriending the harmful sun
Applying sunscreens should never be restricted to summer alone. Sunscreens act as a shield against the hurtful ultraviolet rays which penetrate the skin every time it is exposed to the sun. Here are some ways to help you utilize sunscreens properly:

SPF and ingredients
Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, water resistant, and provides broad-spectrum coverage. Also, make sure that it contains Titanium dioxide; Octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC); Avobenzone (also parsol), and Zinc oxide. These ingredients are important  in protecting our precious skin.

Apply generously
Apply sunscreen generously before going out. It takes approximately 15 minutes for your skin to absorb it so wait until your skin is ready and protected. Remember to apply sunscreen on your neck, face, ears, legs, and other exposed parts of your body.

For hardtoreach areas like your back, ask someone to help you. You can also use a spray sunscreen for easier and balanced application. If you have thinning hair, either apply sunscreen to your scalp or wear a widebrimmed hat. To protect your lips, apply a lip balm with a SPF of at least 15.

Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours to remain protected, or immediately after swimming.

Love your skin
Start loving your skin as early as now. Facial and body wash help you have beautiful skin but sunscreens are your go-to products to keep it safe and healthy. So go ahead, get your sunscreen and enjoy the outdoors!
