Introducing the New Adwords Keyword Planner

The well-known Google Adwords Keyword Tool used by SEO experts all over the world has formally taken its leave.  Back in May 2013, Google announced that it  would replace the external tool with a new one, giving no apparent date of its disappearance. Now, this Keyword Tool is officially gone and has been replaced with a new effective tool.


According to Adwords product Manager, Deepti Bhatnagar, using two tools in identifying new keywords and getting traffic estimates is cumbersome. That said, he quickly simplified both processes and allowed marketers to find keywords, and ad groups for effective campaigns by providing a website that can perform all of these important tasks – the Keyword Planner.


Adwords Keyword Planner is a fresh, new SEO tool that merges the powers of both the Keyword Tool and Traffic Estimator on the way to having a smoother workflow.  It is more organized, and provides a clearer presentation of data. With this new tool, you’ll be able to see detailed graphs, and you can download important data in the form of a spreadsheet.

The primary choice in looking for keyword suggestions is to “Search for keyword and ad group ideas”. Clicking the option will lead you to the next stage which is a fill up form wherein you can type your niche and landing pages to get new keyword ideas. Once these are done, you are now ready for an exciting keyword search venture.

What to Expect

Finding new keywords and ad group ideas for your website is almost the same as the Adwords Keyword Tool. It’s still free! What’s new is that you need to sign up first, before you start with the process and begin with getting all the needed data. Also, Keyword Planner lets you combine two or more lists of keywords to come up with fresh, new keywords. For local SEO, you can now target cities and regions within a country unlike the Keyword Tool that only targets a certain country.


Monthly Searches

Before, the Keyword Tool would show both Global and Local Monthly Searches. Now, Keyword planner shows only the Average Monthly searches. To be able to see the global search results, you’re going to need to change your target location. During the keyword research, you’ll see a small icon showing in graph the performance of keyword results for each month.

Keyword Bidding

Keyword Planner has a process that allows you to bid for your selected keywords and groupings. Keyword bidding is the process of auctioning keywords for your ads to show up on both Yahoo! and Bing. Since the webpages only have limited places to expose your ads, you’ll be bidding against other internet marketers and businessmen to have your ads placed on the exact space you want.
